Race Navigator RNZ to VBO: reconstructing the missing final metres
Based on building RaceBuddy’s importer and testing real Race Navigator exports.
Some Race Navigator RNZ exports stop a few metres before the finish line. The lap was completed, but the exported GPS trace is too short for another tool to recognise it.
1. The file stops before the finish
Lap analysis needs to see the finish-line crossing. If the file ends before that crossing, a complete lap can appear incomplete.
Actual GPS points from the downloadable sample below. The orange extension is estimated.
2. Reconstruct the short missing section
RaceBuddy uses the final GPS points, speed, direction and acceleration to estimate the short missing section and calculate the crossing.
- The original measured points stay unchanged.
- Repair is limited to endpoints within 30 m of the timing-line reference point, with at most 50 added samples per end.
These are estimated points, not recovered measurements. This cannot restore a missing corner or a long gap. A short gap at the start can be treated in the same way.
3. Import RNZ. Export VBO.
An RNZ is a ZIP archive containing .rn XML with telemetry and track information. RaceBuddy reads it, reconstructs short boundary gaps when needed, and exports the saved data as VBO. Renaming the file is not enough.
- Upload your RNZ file.
- Review the track and detected lap.
- Sign in, save the session, then choose Export → VBO.
